PHALANX

Warm mix asphalt is paving mix that can be produced and compacted at lower temperatures than traditional hot mix asphalt materials for roadway development. This may result in reduced greenhouse gas (GHG) and asphalt emissions through lower operational temperature requirements at the plant and at the job site. PHALANX®, a specially engineered warm mix additive, is designed to improve compactability of hot asphalt mixes and Polymer Modified Bitumen (PMB) mixes. It helps reduce the paving temperature when laying down a roadway. PHALANX helps lower the carbon footprint, reduce energy consumption, and deliver overall cost savings.

How Water Affects Asphalt Sustainability and Durability: From Pavement Performance to Energy Use

Water is one of the most persistent and underestimated forces acting on asphalt roadways. While traffic, climate, and materials all influence pavement performance, moisture often determines how long a surface lasts and how sustainable it truly is. Factors such as how water interacts with asphalt binder and aggregate and the hidden energy costs of removing moisture from aggregate or reclaimed asphalt pavement (RAP) piles are just the start of how water [...]

Beyond Warm Mix Asphalt: Key Strategies to Extend and Maximize the Paving Season

Extending the paving season has become a growing priority across the asphalt industry. Traditional hot mix asphalt (HMA) is highly sensitive to ambient temperatures, limiting when projects can be completed and often compressing work into short peak construction windows. In response, warm mix asphalt (WMA) has gained widespread adoption as a practical, performance-driven solution. By lowering production and compaction temperatures, WMA can allow contractors to work [...]

How Switching to WMA Helps Asphalt Plants Maintain Environmental Compliance

As environmental regulations continue to tighten, asphalt producers remain under growing pressure to reduce emissions, odors, and visible smoke without sacrificing mix quality or production efficiency.     One of the most effective ways plants are meeting these challenges is by switching to warm mix asphalt (WMA). Beyond energy savings, WMA offers tangible compliance advantages that can directly address stack emissions, opacity limits, and neighborhood concerns, making [...]

All About Crumb Rubber for Asphalt Mix Design

Asphalt technology is constantly evolving, and one of the most sustainable and performance-enhancing innovations has been the introduction of crumb rubber into mix designs. Derived from recycled tires, crumb rubber can be integrated into asphalt mixtures to improve durability, flexibility, and resistance to high temperatures.     With proper mix design and additive support, crumb rubber asphalt (CRA) extends roadway lifespans while promoting environmental sustainability by [...]
