ButaPhalt

ButaPhalt® is an innovative cross-linking agent that helps improve the effectiveness of sulfur to cross link the SBS polymers with bitumen during the manufacture of polymer modified bitumen (PMB). It also helps in improving the thermal stability and storage stability of the PMB. A unique blend of proprietary ingredients, ButaPhalt acts as a H2S scavenger, helping reduce the hydrogen sulfide (H2S) emission and odor. It is easy to use in a PMB operation and is safe to handle and use. A more effective cross-linking agent, low levels of ButaPhalt deliver the desired results. ButaPhalt also helps in reducing the amount of polymer needed to meet the established specification and deliver the desired performance. The product is available both as a free-flowing, dust-free powder and as a liquid.

How ButaPhalt PMB Crosslinker Prevents Equipment Fouling for Asphalt Producers

For many polymer modified bitumen (PMB) producers, equipment fouling is an unavoidable cost of doing business. Build-up on mixers, transfer lines, storage tanks, and production equipment increases downtime, creates maintenance issues, and reduces production efficiency. While traditional sulfur crosslinking remains an effective way to improve binder performance, the crosslinking process itself can contribute to difficult cleanups that cost producers time and money.    Asphalt producers need more than a [...]

What Are Asphalt Performance Enhancers?

Road networks are under more pressure than ever. Heavier traffic loads, rising temperature extremes, tighter environmental regulations, and increased expectations for service life are all reshaping how pavements are designed and maintained.     In response, the industry has increasingly turned to asphalt performance enhancers: a broad category of asphalt additives designed to improve pavement performance, extend asphalt durability, and enable more resilient, [...]

ButaPhalt and Asphalt Crosslinkers for Modern Bitumen Additive Strategies

For decades, the performance of polymer modified bitumen (PMB) has relied heavily on the ability of polymers to integrate effectively within the bituminous phase. While early systems delivered meaningful improvements in rutting resistance and elasticity, they also introduced persistent production and storage challenges such as phase separation, inconsistent dispersion, and processing instability.    To address these issues, the industry turned to [...]

Cost Savings and Lifecycle Value in the Asphalt Industry

Asphalt production and paving operations are under constant pressure to balance performance, efficiency, and cost. Agencies, producers, and contractors are expected to deliver durable pavements while managing fluctuating raw material prices, energy expenses, maintenance demands, and increasingly complex mix designs. As a result, the use of asphalt additives and asphalt modifiers has become an important strategy for optimizing production costs and long-term pavement value.    Advanced additive [...]
