Sustainability in asphalt may have more of a sense of urgency across the industry today than it did decades ago, but Sripath developed additives to improve bitumen performance with a focus on environmentally friendly options since the start. World Highways wrote about this dedication to sustainable product development in a June 2024 feature article.

Sripath not only says it offers eco-friendly additives that may promote a lower carbon footprint for contractors. The company makes its Environmental Product Declarations (EPD) and Sustainability Reports publicly available on its website. These documents detail the product’s impact on the environment across a defined life cycle. EPDs are currently available for ReLIXER, an asphalt rejuvenator, PGXpand, a bitumen-friendly polymeric-additive, and NuMIXER, a green bio-oil bitumen softener.

Important to this analysis is an understanding of carbon sequestration, the process through which carbon dioxide is separated from the air and stored in a different form. In the case of ReLIXER, carbon dioxide is captured during the process of photosynthesis via the plants used to manufacture the product’s bio-based oil blend. When factoring in carbon sequestration (S1) with cradle-t0-gate analysis, ReLIXER exhibits a total value of -1.677kg of CO₂ equivalent for the A1 + A2 + A3 + S1 parameter, which may help to lower overall greenhouse gas emissions for paving and roofing projects leading to improved sustainability in asphalt projects.

“We are proud of our sustainability focus and as leaders in promoting transparency by allowing our customers to easily download our EPDs and sustainability reports. We hope this approach helps our customers meet their own sustainability goals and targets,” noted Vince Aurilio, Senior Technical Director, Sripath Technologies.

“We’re firmly dedicated to quantifying our sustainability impact and are proud to take a leading position in making our sustainability reports easily available to our customers,” said Dr. Krishna Srinivasan, President, Sripath Technologies. “Sharing our EPDs as informative and educational tools was the next logical step for us in demonstrating our commitment to environmental responsibility.”
