PHALANX

news

Warm mix asphalt is paving mix that can be produced and compacted at lower temperatures than traditional hot mix asphalt materials for roadway development. This may result in reduced greenhouse gas (GHG) and asphalt emissions through lower operational temperature requirements at the plant and at the job site. PHALANX®, a specially engineered warm mix additive, is designed to improve compactability of hot asphalt mixes and Polymer Modified Bitumen (PMB) mixes. It helps reduce the paving temperature when laying down a roadway. PHALANX helps lower the carbon footprint, reduce energy consumption, and deliver overall cost savings.

Warm Mix Asphalt and Compaction

Warm mix asphalt (WMA) production remains an alterative to traditional hot mix asphalt (HMA) approaches as manufacturers explore options for reducing costs and emissions. For example, mixes developed using warm mix asphalt technologies represent 39.6% of all asphalt mix production in the United States. In the European Union, WMA market share has increased to an average of 18.3%, [...]

Warm Mix Asphalt: Pros and Cons of WMA Technology in Paving

Warm mix asphalt (WMA) primarily differs from its hot mix asphalt (HMA) counterpart on the basis of providing for lower asphalt production and compaction temperatures, which can be between 30 to 120°F less than HMA applications. However, WMA offers a number of key advantages over traditional HMAs beyond temperature reduction.    While WMAs are no longer uncommon across the paving [...]
