At Sripath Technologies, partnerships have always been central to how we innovate. As we celebrate 20 years of working to Make Asphalt Better®, we are taking time to recognize the organizations that help turn bold ideas into proven field solutions. High among these is our long-standing collaborator: the Modified Asphalt Research Center (MARC) at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, led by the renowned Dr. Hussain Bahia. 

 

For well over two decades, our joint efforts have bridged the gap between academic research and commercial production. Together, we have helped innovate how the global paving market evaluates, tests, and deploys high-performance asphalt additives and rejuvenators. 

 

Defining the "Genes" of Good Rejuvenation 

One of the greatest challenges in the paving industry is the transition to a circular economy. As transportation departments and contractors look to maximize the use of Reclaimed Asphalt Pavement (RAP), they face a critical roadblock: aged bitumen becomes stiff, brittle, and prone to premature cracking. 

 

To solve this, Sripath began collaborating with Dr. Bahia and the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at UW-Madison. Rather than simply treating rejuvenation as an experimental trial-and-error process, MARC went deeper. Dr. Bahia and his team conducted rigorous experimental studies, helping to redefine how rejuvenating agents interact with aged binders to restore their original rheological properties.  

 

This deep scientific foundation allowed Sripath to develop and refine ReLIXER®, an eco-friendly, bio-based rejuvenator. The scientific vetting done at UW-Madison gave the market the confidence it needed to understand ReLIXER's performance from the very beginning. 

 

From the Academic Lab to the Interstate 

The true value of the Sripath-MARC partnership lies in a shared commitment to practical, scalable results. Their academic research has been shown to impact real-world performance, and our collaborative work has proven itself on some of the most heavily trafficked corridors in the United States. 

 

A prime example of this synergy was the landmark trial conducted in partnership with the Illinois Tollway, S.T.A.T.E. Testing, and Plote Construction. To help the Tollway maximize its Asphalt Binder Replacement (ABR) ratios without sacrificing durability, Dr. Bahia and the MARC team worked alongside Sripath to design and review mix designs using ReLIXER. 

 

The resulting trials, which covered over five lane-miles on Interstates 88 and 294, successfully demonstrated that mixes utilizing up to 40% ABR could be laid down easily, compacted effectively, and meet every rigid performance specification. 

 

A Shared Vision for the Next 20 Years
