Sripath Technologies and University of Oklahoma Collaborate on Asphalt Industry Innovation

Advancing Asphalt Education and Research Together

At Sripath Technologies®, partnerships have always been central to how we innovate. As we celebrate 20 years of working to Make Asphalt Better®, we are taking time to recognize the organizations that help turn ideas into impact. Among these are our partners at University of Oklahoma (OU), specifically the Gallogly College of Engineering (GCoE) and the Mewbourne College of Earth and Energy (MCEE).

OU plays a unique and essential role in advancing both education and applied research in the asphalt and bitumen industry. Through collaboration, shared knowledge, and a commitment to practical outcomes, OU helps ensure innovation in asphalt materials is possible as well as sustainable and scalable.

Bridging Education, Research, and Industry Practice

One of the defining strengths of OU's GCoE and MCEE is their ability to bridge academic research with real-world industry needs. Asphalt and bitumen performance challenges do not exist in isolation. They sit at the intersection of materials science, chemistry, civil engineering, and energy systems. OU's interdisciplinary approach allows these challenges to be studied holistically.

For Sripath, this means collaborating with faculty, researchers, and students who understand the complexity of modern pavement systems and are equipped to explore solutions that can be implemented beyond the lab. OU provides the technical depth and dedication to research needed to evaluate new approaches with confidence. This can apply to a variety of disciplines including material compatibility, extending pavement life, or supporting sustainability goals.

OU is also helping educate the next generation of engineers and researchers who will shape the future of the asphalt industry. By engaging students in hands-on research and exposing them to industry-relevant problems, OU ensures education translates into practical expertise.

Supporting Knowledge Sharing Through Industry Engagement

In 2025, Sripath presented a technical webinar hosted by the University of Oklahoma in collaboration with the Southern Plains Transportation Center. This is just one example of how OU actively supports knowledge sharing across academia, industry, and public agencies.

As reclaimed asphalt pavement (RAP) continues to see increased adoption across the United States, departments of transportation, asphalt producers, and contractors face a common challenge: how to raise RAP content without compromising roadway performance. The webinar, "A Practical Guide on Using High-RAP Mixes," addressed these challenges head-on, focusing on the science and practical application of asphalt rejuvenators as a tool for restoring the functional properties of aged bitumen in RAP mixes.

Presented by Sripath Technologies President Krishna Srinivasan, the session explored key considerations across the RAP lifecycle including material handling, dosage recommendations, and mix design strategies. Drawing on data from real-world trials and global case studies, the webinar provided attendees with actionable insights into how high-RAP mixtures can deliver durability, performance, and consistency when properly designed with an effective asphalt rejuvenator.

By hosting and supporting this kind of applied, data-driven education, the University of Oklahoma reinforces its role as a trusted bridge between research and real-world practice. These forums disseminate technical knowledge while fostering the cross-sector dialogue needed to advance more sustainable, resilient pavement solutions.

Investing in Research Infrastructure: The Asphalt Emulsion Laboratory

Another milestone in the partnership was Sripath's sponsorship of the Asphalt Emulsion Laboratory at the Gallogly College of Engineering and Mewbourne College of Earth and Energy. Research infrastructure like this is essential for advancing understanding of asphalt materials, particularly as emulsions and modified binders play a growing role in modern pavement solutions.

The laboratory provides students and researchers with the tools needed to study material behavior, evaluate performance characteristics, and test innovations under controlled conditions. For Sripath, supporting this facility aligns with a long-standing belief: meaningful innovation requires investment beyond products and in the environments where learning and discovery occur.

The Asphalt Emulsion Laboratory also strengthens OU's ability to collaborate with industry partners, transportation agencies, and research centers, helping to create a hub for theory, testing, and applied science.

A Shared Commitment to Better Asphalt

What makes University of Oklahoma such a valuable partner is the combination of their technical capabilities and alignment of purpose. Both OU and Sripath are committed to improving how asphalt materials are designed, produced, and applied so that roads last longer and perform better.

As Sripath marks 20 years in the asphalt industry, partnerships like this remind us that progress is rarely achieved alone. It comes, in part, from collaboration between industry and academia.

We are proud to work alongside the University of Oklahoma's Gallogly College of Engineering and Mewbourne College of Earth and Energy, and we look forward to continuing this partnership as we help shape the next generation of asphalt solutions.
