Sripath Technologies wishes to congratulate the team at the Department of Civil, Coastal, and Environmental Engineering at the University of South Alabama and the team at the Walton County Public Works, Florida on successfully submitting and winning an award for their recent technical poster at TRB 2025.
A team of experts submitted a poster for review by the TRB AJE35 Standing Committee on Research Innovation Implementation Management (RIIM). Titled “Fostering Local Government-University-Industry Collaboration for Low-Carbon Asphalt Solutions in Florida,” the poster was awarded a second-place certificate during the TRB annual meeting held in Washington DC January 5-9, 2025.
The poster demonstrated the viability of utilizing a cold mix asphalt based on 100% reclaimed asphalt pavement (RAP) dosed with a recycling agent ReLIXER for roadway paving projects in Florida. The project was undertaken and funded by the team at Walton County Public Works, Florida. Sripath provided ReLIXER, its bio-based asphalt rejuvenator. When ReLIXER is added to a high-RAP mix, it helps restore the functional properties of the aged RAP bitumen. Laboratory testing and roadway performance evaluations were conducted by the team from University of South Alabama. The project encompassed the ability to successfully lay down 100% RAP mix across two stretches of roadway surface.
The project showcased the success of interdisciplinary collaboration among local government, academia, and industry in delivering a sustainable road construction project utilizing 100% RAP cold mix asphalt. The team demonstrated a 55 % cost savings and a 70 % reduction in greenhouse gas emissions.
The poster was coauthored by: Abeeb Oyelere, Sajid Md Intesher Karim and Shenghua Wu of University of South Alabama; Charles Cotton and Chance Powell of the Walton County Public Works, Florida; and Krishna Srinivasan of Sripath Technologies.
Again, the entire Sripath team congratulates the dedication demonstrated by the authors in conducting the research, organizing the field trial, completing the laboratory evaluations, and presenting this award-winning poster.
