With the conclusion of the 60th Anniversary of the Sports Car Club of America National Championship Runoffs at Virginia International Raceway, the Sripath Technologies #12 B-Spec Mini Cooper, driven by Steve Introne, has concluded its 2023 season.
Highlights from this year include:
- Northeast Conference Majors Champion
- 2nd Place – New England Road Racing Regional Championship
- 1st place in 13 of 18 races
- 2nd place (3x)
- 2 new track Records
- Started 3rd at the National Championship race
As the defending 2022 National Champion, expectations were high for a repeat performance at the week-long winner-take-all 15-lap or 40-minute sprint race on the 3.27 mile course Sunday, October 1. Starting third on the grid, Introne was poised to make a solid run for another podium appearance. Unfortunately, racing happened. As the green flag flew and 25 cars poured into turn 1, one driver lost control of his car and forced Introne off-track and into the dirt, relegating him to last place once he was able to re-enter the course.
For the next 14 laps, Introne proved what makes him one of the best drivers in the country. Picking off car by car, racing dynamically through the pack, Introne charged his way all the way from 25th to finish in 9th place. He gained 16 positions in 14 laps. It was an impressive run.
Despite the disappointment of a lost opportunity to challenge for another title, the 2023 season was still a resounding success. Introne won 13 races, set two new track records, and claimed a repeat as the Northeast Majors Champion.
“I had the best partners this season,” Introne said. “Sripath’s support throughout the year has been outstanding, and our team is so grateful. As we start preparing for 2024, there’s plenty to be excited about as we look forward to what’s coming next.”
Full coverage of the entire Championship race is available online. Broadcasters spent a lot of time following Introne’s come-from-behind run. Check it out on the SCCA YouTube channel.
