The top PGXpand® Polymers are unique and highly compatible polymer modified asphalt (PMA) modifiers that increase the high temperature (PG) stiffness modulus (High PG Grade) while maintaining the low-temperature PG performance of the paving binder (Low PG Grade). PGXpand® is also an efficient workability and compaction aid in paving formulations, particularly in those stiffer mixes incorporating high amounts of Recycled Asphalt Pavement and Recycled Asphalt Shingles (RAP & RAS). PGXpand® incorporates readily into hot asphalt with low shear mixing; yielding a stable modified polymer modified asphalt / polymer modified bitumen (PMA / PMB) with high heat resistance that does not degrade or separate in storage. PGXpand® allows the PMA Producer to improve the high temperature performance of their binder with no appreciable damage to low temperature performance. For example, the addition of a low dose of PGXpand® to a PG64-22 asphalt will generate a PG76-22 or PG82-22. When used in combination with a low dose of our NuMIXER or ReLIXER™/ReJUVN8™, one can convert that PG64-22 asphalt into a PG64-34/PG70-34 or similar quality binder therefore maintaining or improving high temperature properties while substantially improving low temperature performance. PGXpand® allows the Polymer Modified Asphalt (PMA) producer to eliminate or reduce their SBS content by 25-40% and reduces PMA viscosity, thereby supporting a 15-40+% higher concentrate percentage, generating a more stable concentrate and reducing PMA production cost and transportation. PGXpand® also functions as an excellent dispersing aid when used in combination with conventional polymers such as SBS and SBR. Two grades of PGXpand® are currently marketed. Both are free-flowing powders. PGXpand® 502 is available in full truckload quantities in 1,000 lb supersacks 460 kg). PGXpand 501 is available in full truckload quantities in 50 lb (25 kg) bags.
